[_Springing up._] Not now! I have stopped sobbing--the tears have cleared my eyes--I see better than you! I will not have you magnify the doubt I threw into my angry words. There was no doubt; I spoke falsely. Have I not given you my life? I should not dare to doubt you! There are things that must not, shall not be done. We are going to pass through a fire of hatred, scorn, ridicule. We _must_ have success, we _must_ triumph, and we must protect your father from harm. Go!
