Theatre producer, director, and manager John Glenn made a significant decision to step back from his demanding career in recent years. This move allowed him to reevaluate his priorities and make room for new opportunities, improved health, and meaningful connections.
Glenn’s professional life is dynamic, involving running Hey Dowling with his partner Peta Spurling-Brown, producing and touring theatre shows globally, and collaborating with artists to bring compelling stories to the stage. Among their projects is the upcoming premiere of “The Lark” featuring Noni Hazlehurst in Melbourne this September. Additionally, he serves as an Executive Producer at Brink Productions, a renowned South Australian theatre company, which is currently touring “Looking for Alibrandi” nationally.
Besides his theatrical endeavors, Glenn is actively involved in the music industry, chairing Music SA and serving on the Board of PAC Australia. His diverse roles reflect a deep commitment to supporting and promoting the arts in South Australia and beyond.
Outside of work, Glenn finds joy in his family life with his daughter, fiancé Tatiana Hotere, and their dog. Living near Hutt Street, they cherish morning walks in Victoria Park and exploring the local cafes and bars. An avid music enthusiast, Glenn’s love for music stems from his earlier career as a musician in Adelaide.
Reflecting on cherished memories, Glenn holds dear photos of his daughter, particularly recalling a special moment on the Brisbane River in 2014. The image captures her pure delight as they sailed together, a memory that brings him immense joy.
One of the most profound lessons Glenn learned was the importance of staying connected to the art he loves. While climbing the ranks in the performing arts industry, he realized the toll it was taking on his well-being and passion. This realization prompted him to take a step back, refocus on what truly matters to him, and prioritize his happiness and work-life balance.
Glenn’s playlist reflects his eclectic taste in music, with songs ranging from Tim Minchin’s “Ruby” to Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile.” His life philosophy centers on humility, health, and serving others, emphasizing the value of personal fulfillment and making a positive impact.
Glenn’s journey serves as a testament to the transformative power of self-reflection and prioritizing one’s well-being. By embracing change and focusing on what truly matters, he has not only found greater happiness and fulfillment but also welcomed new experiences and relationships into his life.
