Six new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations have been recently unveiled at the Brolga Theatre car park by the Fraser Coast Regional Council, signaling a move towards a more sustainable and future-ready transportation infrastructure. This development, spearheaded by NRMA, features four fast charging bays and two level two charging bays, catering to the growing number of EV drivers in the region.
Fraser Coast Regional Councillor, Paul Truscott, emphasized the significance of these charging stations in promoting drive tourism in the area. The fast-charging stations, capable of fully charging a vehicle in about thirty minutes, are strategically positioned to encourage travelers to take a break, explore the region, attend events at the Brolga Theatre, and discover the charming town of Maryborough.
With the rise in popularity of electric vehicles, Queensland has witnessed a notable increase in EV sales over recent years, with approximately 10% of new car sales now being electric. Looking ahead, it is projected that by 2035, there could be around 1.6 million EVs on Queensland roads, highlighting the importance of establishing a robust charging infrastructure to support this growing trend.
NRMA, a key player in the EV charging network, has been at the forefront of enhancing EV infrastructure across the country. Michelle Lacey, NRMA Stakeholder Engagement Lead, expressed pride in collaborating with the Fraser Coast Regional Council to introduce these essential charging facilities, which not only promote cleaner transport but also facilitate regional travel in Queensland.
These charging bays, located within the Brolga Theatre car park with convenient access from Lennox Street, are now fully operational, providing EV owners with a seamless charging experience. The installation of these charging stations aligns with a broader national effort to expand EV infrastructure, ensuring that drivers have access to reliable and efficient charging solutions as they navigate through the region.
By partnering with NRMA Electric Highways Pty Ltd, the Fraser Coast Regional Council has taken a proactive step in supporting sustainable transportation and fostering a more environmentally conscious approach to travel. The 10-year lease agreement for the charging site underscores the long-term commitment to promoting EV adoption and enhancing the region’s appeal as a forward-thinking and eco-friendly destination.
As the EV landscape continues to evolve, initiatives like the one at the Brolga Theatre serve as a testament to the ongoing efforts to create a more sustainable and accessible infrastructure for electric vehicles. With a growing number of EV drivers on the roads, investing in charging infrastructure not only supports cleaner transport but also positions regions like the Fraser Coast as leaders in embracing innovative and eco-conscious solutions for the future.
